Jeongseon Arirang Market Nearby Attraction : Hwaamdonggul Cave
Fifth largest gold mine

Hwaamdonggul Cave is the nation’s fifth largest goldmine that was originally a gold mine commercially utilized from 1922 to 1945. It is Korea’s Regional Monument No. 33, however, the cave was found to contain natural stalactites, and has been developed into an attraction site for its magnificent beauty since.

The cave consists of 2,800㎡ of open space and 1,803m in length opened to the path of the visitors. There are a total of 41 zones with 5 sectional areas to tour, and it takes approximately an hour and a half to tour all of the sections. The entire area consists of 5 sections which in turn constitute 41 zones; it takes about an hour and a half to see all of the zones.

The monorail takes you to the entrance of the Hwaamdonggul Cave, while on the way listening to the Korean traditional folk song Jeongseon Arirang. Not only is Hwaamdonggul Cave a tourist attraction, but it serves a great purpose as an educational venue where visitors can learn about the subterranean ecology of a cave as well as the process of mining gold and refining.
