The Jeongseon Arirang Festival is a festival where nature, people, and Arirang come together every year to preserve the developmental success of Jeongseon Arirang, the first Gangwon Province intangible cultural heritage. In early October, the program includes overseas and regional Arirang (North Korea, Gyeonggi, Miryang, Jindo, Yeongcheon, Seodo, etc.), which contains the history of the suffering of ethnic Korean immigrants through the Jeongseon Arirang. The only Korean Arirang gathering hall has been prepared to accommodate the sentiment of the people, making it a distinct festival from other sound festivals.

Jeongseon Arirang Market : Arirang Festival

Arirang Festival While munching on your food haul of Korean Traditional food, you can sing along to a performance of Jeongseon’s Popular Korean Folk Song called Arirang held at the Jeongseon Activity Hall. Your jaw will drop by how perfectly the performers sang the Arirang song.  Do you know what the Arirang song is?  Arirang is a tragic song of separation and lost love. It is a national symbol not only of Korea’s distant past, but also its turbulent modern history. It served as a symbol of Korea’s struggle for independence under Japan, and its relevance has remained throughout decades of division and fraternal hostilities. The Korean government intends to register the song, often considered the unofficial national anthem of Korea, on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Back in the days people used to eat this food as a main dish in Gangwon-do. Gangwon-do’s representative grain of potatoes and corn that grow well in mountainous terrain has developed diverse dishes, including a substantial meal with tadpole noodle, which is also good for health due to its high calorie content and high fiber content.
