“The taste of Gangwon-do at Jeongseon Arirang Market”
Hello~ This is Koreamarket2018 Traditional Market Ambassadors.
This time we will introduce “Gondre” among many herbs in the Jeongseon Arirang Market.
“Gondre”
“Gondre used the be called Goryeong Thistle”
The official name of gondre that we can see when we go to supermarkets or large discount stores is “Goryeong Thistle.“ The name of the plant is constructed by projecting the position or interest of the named person. The scholars say that gondre bore a flower similar to the thistle and called it the “Goryeong Thistle.”
“Where did the name “Gondre” come from?”
Gondre lacks exact data and evidence, but the most common etymology is that people looked lethargic, like they were drunk or asleep, because they ate too much gondre and lost blood pressure.
“Next to the house, gondre is like a grateful neighbor”
Gangwon-do Jeongseon has very few rice fields. Therefore, rather than growing and producing in a rice field, they gathered more vegetables growing in fields or on the base of a mountain. People of Jeongseon collected a lot of gondre from the neighboring mountain and recently, gondre restaurants have become popular in urban areas due to the growing demand.
Even the gondre grown by the hands of people, not by nature, can not match the colors, leaves, and the soft texture of the gondres grown in the Jeongseon region.
“The efficacy of Gondre”
Protein, calcium, vitamin A, and other nutrients are abundant, and digests well, free from burden. In addition, it has tough fiber so it is good for reducing blood cholesterol, preventing constipation and dieting.
“Warm and Steaming Stone Pot Gondre Herb Rice”
