Seongyojang is the residence of Naebeon Lee (1703 -1781), a former yangban (upper class) of the noble family in Gangneung, Gangwon-do. The residence unfolds one of the well preserved architecture in Korea and manifests the affluent family during the Joseon Dynasty. With 9 houses and approximately 100 rooms to showcase, it includes Anchae (women’s quarters), east byeoldang (detached quarters in east), west byeoldang (detached quarters in west), Yeolhwadang and Hwallaejeong.

There is a square pond along with a pavilion named Hwallaejeong in front of the Seongyojang House. Within this residency, visitors can experience traditional Korean Hanok (traditional Korean house) and rest inside. The guests may feel at home as the rooms have an appearance of the old traditional Hanok with the modern interior renovations equipped with a kitchen, shower, toilet, and etc. In addition, visitors have the opportunity to experience various Korean traditions through programs such as tea etiquette, making hangwa (Korean traditional sweet snacks), rice cake, calligraphy, and etc.
