Hotteok is a well-known traditional street food item in Korea that makes a taste of sweetness. It is a stuffed pancake which is crispy and filled with brown-sugar and nuts inside.

Although you will find this lovely food just about anywhere, you will be surprised to find it with topped with ice cream. The combination between hot and cold food makes another creation that you will only find at the Gangneung Central Market. The food is named according to the mixture as ‘Ice Cream Hotteok.’

The entire procedure of making the ice cream hotteok seems quite simple. A ball of dough has to be made flat in the initial stage and then it needs to be stuffed with the mixture of brown sugar, nuts and other ingredients inside. After that the mixture is wrapped with the dough and a gentle cooking in a hot pan with a little oil makes the creation of the Hotteok.

During cooking, the pancake needs to be flipped over and over again and has to be flattened out as much as possible. It is then served in a plastic cup with the layer of sliced hotteok and ice cream topping one after another.
